MARCH ’08:
Riverdene
Stud proprietor Dr Kevin
Pendergast has successfully
negotiated the purchase
of ENEMY OF AVERAGE, the
juvenile stakes winning son
of Fusaichi Pegasus (USA)
and half-brother to Exceed
And Excel.
A
magnificent chestnut horse
that fetched $800,000 as
a yearling, ENEMY OF AVERAGE
was raced by the Perrin
brothers (of Billabong Clothing
Label fame) and proved to
be an immediate success
as a racehorse, recording
a Listed race victory in
Adelaide
on debut as a 2-year-old.
In
winning the Listed SAJC
Walter Brown Stakes as a
juvenile before a recurring
back injury curtailed his
highly promising racing
career, ENEMY OF AVERAGE
became the second individual
2-year-old stakes winner
produced by Patrona. Patrona’s
2000 foal was none other
than the brilliant racetrack
performer and exceptionally
promising young sire Exceed
And Excel. After winning
the STC Todman Slipper Trial
as a 2-year-old, Exceed
And Excel proceeded to establish
himself as the best sprinter
in Australia with wins in
the VRC Newmarket Handicap
(G1) and MRC Invitational
Stakes (G1).
Of
course, Exceed And Excel
has
since gone on to prove a
sire
sensation, streaking away
to a commanding lead in
the 2007/08 First Season
Sire’s
listing with no fewer than
four individual stakes winners
(as of 28/2/2008) already
to his credit. ENEMY
OF AVERAGE is among 28 stakes
winners sired worldwide
by Coolmore’s
outstanding
Mr Prospector-line
stallion Fusaichi
Pegasus. His
progeny to
race in Australia
include the
multiple Group
1 winner Haradasun,
as well as
the notable
stakes winners
Flying Pegasus,
Tipungwuti,
Just Dancing,
Zizou etc.
Riverdene
Stud is making a limited
number of shares available
for purchase
in ENEMY
OF AVERAGE, with
the Perrins
retaining
a 20 percent
stake. |
