It’s difficult to keep things in perspective at this time of the year when so many feature races and so much valuable prizemoney is in evidence. While it would be nice to own the next Melbourne Cup winner or a horse good enough to take its place in a W.S. Cox Plate field, consistently earning income is the name of the game for most… Riverdene
resident
MARWINA has
always been
a reliable
money-spinner
both on and
off the track. MARWINA’s bonuses were amassed from no fewer than 21 ‘pay days’ during the period. To our amusement, he nudged-out Redoute’s Choice, Australia’s most expensive stallion, in the process. MARWINA
continues
to prove
to be a
remarkably
consistent
performer
for Riverdene
and its
clients. ZARIZ is doing a good in terms of BOBS bonuses also and the stallion’s figures for last season were very respectable indeed. A dozen favourable results posted by the stallion’s progeny earned their respective connections $75,000 in BOBS bonuses. Not bad for a stallion with some of his most significant runners racing interstate! ZARIZ was to the fore again last month with a half-dozen race victories by his offspring, including the Canterbury winner Monterey Road. PEDIGREE OF THE MONTH: Marwin Gold Riverdene Stud this month pays tribute to MARWIN GOLD, the ultra-resilient son of MARWINA that recently contested and won his final race start at the ripe old age of eleven. Assigned an 1100-metre contest at Moe for his curtain call, MARWIN GOLD scored by a half-head with yet another memorable performance of a long and distinguished career. A veteran of some 85 starts, Marwin Gold won a total of 20 races and placed on another 18 occasions to register $638,113 in earnings. Not bad for a $6,000 yearling! In summing up his achievements, Troy Portelli, brother of trainer Gary, commented: “There’s a million horses that can string together three or four wins; but it’s not as easy to find one that can come out and win $50,000 in prize-money every preparation for nine years.” Arguably the most significant aspect about this outstanding performer’s pedigree is its balance. The make-up of this beloved individual has so many successful bloodlines involved. A product of the Star Kingdom (Ire) sireline, Marwin Gold does carry two strains of Hyperion through the legendary imported stallion and Forli, a champion of South America. However, the leading son of MARWINA is very much a bit of this plus a little of that. This includes some Nijinsky through the former Woodlands-based stallion Yeats (USA), a progenitor that gained a reputation for siring evergreen stock. No better example of this was seen than the champion New Zealand performer (Our) Poetic Prince , a top-class racehorse either side of the Tasman whether he was racing in a Waikato Lion Brown Sprint (1400m) or a Moonee Valley W.S. Cox Plate (2040m) — both of which he won along with a host of other Group 1 events! The epitome of an Australian sprinter, Marwin Gold called on numerous world influences to make him what he was. He is, however, first and foremost, a precocious son of resident stallion MARWINA, and for that we would like to show are since appreciation for a job very well done. We hope that all breeders with a MARWINA in the backyard have another Marwin Gold on their hands! |
