It may well only be April but we are rapidly putting things in to place for the 2008 breeding season. Our stallion line-up is in the process of being finalised with a couple of developments in this area leading off the newsletter for this month… 2008 recruit ENEMY OF AVERAGE is settling in to his new home with the minimum of fuss and promises to be a horse we can look forward to working with later in the year. A truly striking chestnut with outstanding conformation, ENEMY OF AVERAGE has also greatly impressed us with his good nature and kind attitude. His temperament is genuinely flawless! Of course, one of the main things that attracted us to ENEMY OF AVERAGE is the fact that he is a half-brother to Exceed And Excel, a young stallion with the world at his feet. With just his first crop to go on, Exceed And Excel could well prove to be a champion in the breeding barn, with his reputation literally growing by the week. Indeed, at the 2008 Gold Coast Yearling Sale just staged by the Magic Millions, Exceed And Excel had 22 youngsters sell for an aggregate of $5.9 million and an average of $268,750. Significantly, only Redoute’s Choice, Zabeel (NZ) and Encosta de Lago enjoyed a superior average and we all know their status in the local breeding industry. Only a limited number of shares in ENEMY OF AVERAGE have been made available, with purchase on a first-come-first-served basis. Clients of the stud are encouraged to make contact with stud representative David Keegan on 0417-378-591 to avoid disappointment. The sale of HIGH ROLLING has been successfully negotiated with the son of Snippets due to stand the 2008 breeding season at a location in Western Australia. A dual stakes winner recruited by Riverdene Stud in 2001, HIGH ROLLING has not made the progress we look for in a stallion, a fact which was beginning to show in the support offered by local breeders. Once it became known that HIGH ROLLING was on the market, the stallion’s syndicate managers began to field expressions of interest from studmasters in Western Australia and a satisfactory arrangement was quickly determined. HIGH ROLLING headed to a new home in the west late in March and we will follow his career path with great interest. Riverdene Stud stalwart MARWINA has always kept himself in good company and the current season is proving to be no exception. With BOBS statistics only just starting to make more meaning following the Equine Influenza disruption at the beginning of the current racing season, it is interesting to see how prolific MARWINA is proving yet again. MARWINA’s tally placing him on a par with Choisir, and ahead of the likes of General Nediym, Hussonet (USA), More Than Ready (USA) etc. Team Riverdene heads to the Sydney Classic Yearling Sale later in the month with an attractive group of youngsters to go through the Inglis sales ring. We invite all of our clients who visit the sale to drop by and say hello. It will present us with the perfect opportunity to discuss your intentions for season 2008. |
